The Resistance that really counts is winning elections, which is why all eyes will be on Virginia on November 7th.
Republicans in Virginia are using Trump’s playbook: attacking immigrants and returning citizens, and using racially coded attack ads. As DC progressives, we have an interest in what happens in Virginia. We want to see our neighbors in Virginia defeat the politics of hate and enjoy a higher minimum wage, well-paid teachers, expanded Medicaid and better transit. We also want to see Virginia protect women’s rights, immigrant rights, LGBTQ rights and the rights of returning citizens.
That is why we are working so hard to elect Jennifer Carroll Foy, Elizabeth Guzman and Hala Ayala to the House of Delegates. These progressive candidates are generating real enthusiasm among voters, and by turning them out, we are helping critical races for Governor (Ralph Northam), Lieutenant Governor (DC native Justin Fairfax) and Attorney General (Mark Herring).
In off-year elections, turnout is the name of the game. Door-knocking is the most effective way of turning out voters. I am so proud of the 22 DC4D volunteers who have door-knocked on almost 2,500 doors for these great candidates. Elections in these district were won by less than 300 votes in the last cycle. Our work can make a real difference!
So, I am asking everyone who has even the most remote interest in door-knocking, regardless of your level of experience, to SIGN UP NOW for the final stretch. Don’t wait until we text or phone you. Please take out your calendar NOW, check your schedule and SIGN UP! If you’re new to door-knocking, we’ll team you up with experienced canvassers. It’s a great way to learn!
