Our Endorsements in Wards 2 and 7

The members of DC for Democracy (DC4D) voted on March 25 on endorsing candidates in DC’s June 2020 primary. In DC Council races, members voted to endorse Jordan Grossman in Ward 2 and Anthony Lorenzo Green in Ward 7. In several races, no candidate reached the threshold required for endorsement, which is two-thirds of the vote.

“For so long, Ward 2 voters have been missing a strong, ethical, and progressive voice on the Council,” said DC4D Chair Jeremiah Lowery. “Jordan is our best shot at having that voice. Jordan’s campaign has captivated the progressive movement with his vision for the city. We are really excited about Jordan’s candidacy.”

On the Ward 7 endorsement, Jeremiah said: “Anthony embodies the spirit of the grassroots movement in DC right now. He is a candidate who is deeply rooted in the community while also being a bold, strong voice for the progressive movement in DC. We are extremely proud to endorse him.”

The full results of the endorsement vote, in which 104 DC4D members voted, were:

  • Ward 2 Council Primary & Special Election: Jordan Grossman, with 67% of the vote

  • Ward 7 Council : Anthony Lorenzo Green, with 76% of the vote

  • Ward 8 Council : No endorsement (Trayon White received 52% of the vote)

  • At Large Council: No endorsement (Robert White received 51% of the vote)

  • President: No endorsement (Bernie Sanders received 64% of the vote)

  • Delegate: Eleanor Holmes Norton, with 76% of the votes

  • Statehood Senator: No endorsement. “No endorsement” was the first choice of voters, receiving 71% of the vote

  • Statehood Representative: No endorsement (Oye Owolewa received 50% of the vote)

DC4D uses a modified form of ranked choice voting (RCV), where first and second choice votes are counted.

The endorsement meeting and voting were conducted online, for the first time in DC4D’s history, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Ballots were tabulated and verified by independent election inspectors.

The group previously endorsed Janeese Lewis in the Ward 4 Council race in an endorsement vote in November.
