March 2017 Meetup Recap
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 for our March Meetup at Thai Kitchen! We had a packed house for a lively discussion focusing on the DC budget and the priorities identified by some of our partners for the 2018 fiscal year.
We all know that budgets are a moral document that make government priorities concrete through resource allocation. To help shine a light on this important document and the opaque process that shapes it, we were joined by two experts. First, Ilana Boivie from the DC Fiscal Policy Institute outlined the items they are tracking this year in the Mayor’s budget, including tax triggers, affordable housing investment, and full funding for the recently passed Paid Family Leave legislation. Aja Taylor from Bread for the City then took the floor for a deep dive into the impacts of the DC budget on affordable housing in the area.
If you weren’t able to attend, you can see a recording of the event below!
