What’s at Stake in Virginia this Fall

This Fall, we have a major opportunity to push neighboring Virginia towards progressive reform, by flipping both the House of Delegates and the State Senate from Republican to Democratic control. DC residents have a lot at stake in this election. The Virginia legislature has the power to control the flow of illegal guns, improve regional transit, protect water quality in the Potomac and regional air quality, support DC statehood, and draw fair Congressional district boundaries that are not gerrymandered to protect right-wing politicians — all factors that affect our lives here in DC. That’s why DC4D voted last month to endorse ten terrific candidates (see list below):

We are focusing on three House of Delegates candidates (who are among the top targets of the GOP): freshman Hala Ayala, Wendy Gooditis, Elizabeth Guzman, as well as John Bell, who is currently a Delegate and is running for State Senate. These races are critical to flipping control of both chambers. Guzman was a featured speaker at DC4D’s 15th anniversary celebration this June.

In 2017, DC4D volunteers knocked on 3,594 doors for Hala Ayala, Jennifer Carroll Foy, Elizabeth Guzman, as well as for Governor Ralph Northam, Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax and Attorney General Mark Herring. Their victory made a real difference in people’s lives, through reforms such as expanding Medicaid to 300,000 Virginians. Join us this Fall to bring about even bigger change.
