September 2023 Member Meeting Recap

DC for Democracy members met last night for our September 2023 general body meeting, and we covered a ton! Here's a recap of what we discussed and decided.

  1. Members voted unanimously to endorse the Green New Deal for DC campaign. DC urgently needs more affordable housing , and we look forward to being part of the Green New Deal for DC's efforts.

  2. As part of our commitment to organizing spaces that are welcoming and well-supported for everyone, members voted overwhelmingly to adopt a new Code of Conduct. Thank you to the Code of Conduct working group members who shephered this robust guiding document over the last several months.

  3. We held an inital discussion about a proposed change to our member model. Currently, the only requirement for membership is to attend a meeting. This proposal would require all members to also complete a membership form.

  4. We heard updates from our endorsed coalitions as well as our working groups. See all the upcoming working group meeting dates and sign up to join any of them at dcfordemocracy.org/events.

  5. We announced that our wonderful Steering Committee member Markus Batchelor is stepping down from his position on Steering as he runs for Ward 8 Council. We wish you luck, Markus! We hope to welcome a new leader onto our Steering Committee later this fall.

  6. Our political director Ed Lazere shared a preview of our endorsement process for 2024. If you want to help shape our endorsement process, join the Elections Committee meeting on September 26.

  7. Finally, we'll meet again as a general body on Wednesday, October 11 at 7:00 PM. Join us then to get connected in to our organizing work in the season ahead.

See the full minutes from the September meeting here. Thank you to everyone who joined us last night, and who discussed all of these important issues and projects. We look forward to seeing you at a working group meeting this month or at our next general body meeting on October 11.
